Thailand Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra stated on Tuesday that Thailand has recently made positive progress in cracking down on border crimes in cooperation with relevant countries and has repatriated those involved. Meanwhile, Thailand will continue to strengthen cooperation and dialogue with China and Myanmar to effectively address the issue of telecom fraud, CCTV News reported.
The Thai government held a cabinet meeting on Tuesday to further discuss measures to combat telecom fraud. At the press conference after the meeting, Paetongtarn stated that the Thai government attaches great importance to the issue of telecom fraud and consistently upholds a "relentless" approach, according to CCTV News.
Paetongtarn also mentioned that multiple Thai departments have collaborated with telecom companies to cut off suspicious communications and network signals in border areas. To further enhance cross-border cooperation, she will visit Sa Kaeo Province in eastern Thailand on Friday to conduct on-site research on telecom fraud issues and strengthen collaboration with the Cambodian government to promote joint enforcement actions.
Border control efforts in Thailand's Mae Sot region have achieved phased results, with some telecom fraud suspects already repatriated to relevant countries, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense Phumtham Wechayachai said during the cabinet meeting. He also said that Thailand will hold a trilateral meeting with China and Myanmar in early March for in-depth discussions on joint actions to combat telecom fraud.
At the Thailand-Myanmar border, Thai military personnel and police received repatriated Chinese telecom fraud suspects from Myanmar's Myawaddy region last week. The individuals have now been repatriated to China.
This repatriation marks a milestone and remarkable achievement in multinational law-enforcement efforts between China, Thailand and Myanmar to crack down on telecom and cyber fraud, according to China's Ministry of Public Security.
