The UCCA Center for Contemporary Art will launch the UCCA's fourth clay museum in Yixing, East China's Jiangsu Province, in October. Designed by Kengo Kuma, this 2,400-square-meter museum will focus on contemporary ceramic art with the aim of blending traditional and modern elements and fostering cultural exchanges between local and global artists.
Drawing on UCCA's extensive experience in contemporary art and Yixing's cultural heritage, the museum showcases contemporary ceramic art while fostering the artistic ecology around the Yangtze River Delta. UCCA Clay will host three exhibitions annually featuring both Chinese and international artists, and offer a variety of public education programs to engage visitors and promote cultural tourism in the region.
Incorporating traditional clay elements, Kengo Kuma's architectural design tiles the building with specially crafted ceramic panels. This gives the museum a unique visual identity and artistic vitality. The museum includes flexible exhibition spaces, a multi-purpose hall, an auditorium, conference rooms, a shop, a cafe, and leisure areas, ensuring a comprehensive and interactive art experience.
