Chinese agricultural sector has achieved a set of technological breakthroughs, with advancements in many areas setting global standards, Dhanin Chearavanont, senior chairman of Thailand's Charoen Pokphand Group, told the Global Times during the second China International Supply Chain Expo (CISCE) in Beijing on Tuesday.
The agricultural supply chain is among the most complex supply chains in the world, leveraging latest tech innovations to enhance efficiency and reduce costs across farming, logistics and retail, said Chearavanont.
"China is a global leader in applying technological innovations in agriculture. For instance, many tractors are autonomous, powered by artificial intelligence (AI), which even eliminate the need for drivers' seats, showcasing significant progress," said Chearavanont, dubbed the "001" foreign investor to China.
Chearavanont's CP Group opened a branch in China in the late 1970s during China's initial phase of opening up to the outside world. The group's foreign business license that was issued by Shenzhen, a frontier city in China's opening-up initiative, is numbered "001."
"The Chinese people excel in rapidly implementing cutting-edge technologies like AI and big data to power their industries, turning ideas into practice swiftly," said Chearavanont, noting that agricultural tech innovations and their fast implementation has lifted Chinese agricultural companies globally.
Compared with the first edition of the expo held in 2023, this year's event attracted more participants, Chearavanont said, noting that the expo's theme aligns with the interconnected nature of global supply chains. Many multinational companies, including CP Group, are committed to seeking a shared development for a common future.
