The
mk stage play Perfetti Sconosciuti, adapted from the Italian film of the same name, premiered recently at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and will embark on a nationwide tour. Since its first run last year, the play has garnered numerous accolades.
The play is based on the 2016 Italian film Perfetti Sconosciuti, which won the David di Donatello Award for Best Film. The original movie received several international awards and set a Guinness World Record for the most remakes.
"This film depicts the secret lives we can't confess. Nowadays, these secrets are buried in our phones," said director Paolo Genovese.
The original film explores the complexity and mystery of human nature, revealing that even those closest to us may not fully understand our true essence. The stage adaptation of Perfetti Sconosciuti continues this theme.
The stage play tells the story of several friends who play a game at a dinner party, openly sharing their phone messages and calls, which then exposes family conflicts, marital betrayals, and personal secrets. The mobile phone becomes the focal point of conflict, adding significant realism to the play.
Director Ma Yue remarked that each character in the play serves as a mirror for the others, reflecting how people in our lives can also become mirrors for us.
"Through others, we see ourselves, thus understanding and knowing ourselves better. Perhaps, as an audience member, you too will see a previously unknown part of yourself through the characters in this play," Ma added.
The popularity of Perfetti Sconosciuti lies not only in its gripping plot and superb acting but also in its profound reflections and revelation of real-life issues. This theme has resonated globally, making it one of the most noteworthy stage productions in recent years.
