Ardi Barnard, Consul General of New Zealand in Shanghai, extended his heartfelt congratulations on the inscription of the Spring Festival on the UNESCO list. He emphasized that "UNESCO's protection of intangible [cultural] heritage is an important part of safeguarding unique cultures and practices, and promoting diversity."

Barnard noted that many New Zealanders celebrate the Spring Festival, which serves as a way for Kiwis to learn about Chinese culture. "Every year we also celebrate Chinese Language Week, dedicated to promoting and exploring Chinese language and culture," he said.

For the Year of the Snake, he and his wife enjoyed visiting Yuyuan Garden where a snake-themed lantern show was held, and the surrounding market streets in downtown Shanghai were lit up with the amazing lanterns. He and his family also enjoyed exploring the city to see the many Chinese New Year decorations and lights.

"It was very impressive to see those lanterns with distinctive features from all across China! As the Chinese saying goes, the auspicious dragon waves goodbye to the old year, and the golden snake ushers in the new journey. Wish you all Chun Jie Kuai Le[Happy Spring Festival]!"
