A promotional event for tourism to Almaty in Kazakhstan was held in Shanghai on Tuesday, highlighting new opportunities for tourism cooperation and the potential for future development, as part of the Kazakhstan Year of Tourism in China in 2024.

The event was attended by travel industry professionals and government officials, providing a platform for networking and collaboration. At the event, a promotional video introducing Almaty's beauty and local attractions was shown.

Consul General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai Rakhimov Rakhymzhan also attended the event. He delivered a speech, saying that the promotion will allow participants to gain a better understanding of the tourism potential in Kazakhstan.

In order to further develop the tourism relationship between Kazakhstan and China, efforts are being made to increase the number of tourists visiting Almaty. The local tourism departments have also developed new tourism projects, such as designing new hiking routes to attract Chinese tourists, Makpal Abdikadyr, head of analytics and strategic planning with Almaty's tourism department, told the Global Times on Tuesday.

Almaty is a city that blends modernity with tradition, offering winter sports facilities, rich cultural heritage, and delicious ethnic cuisine, the tourism department head said.

The Kazakhstan tourism year in China in 2024 was launched in Beijing in March under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China and the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.

The ongoing ITB China 2024 is being held in Shanghai as well, with more than 600 tourism organizations and companies from over 80 countries and regions participating in the three-day event. A total of 13 overseas destinations are making their debut at the fair, including Almaty, and Buenos Aires, according to the organizers. The event will last until Wednesday.
