Shenzhen University in South China's Guangdong Province has recently introduced an artificial intelligence (AI) course based on DeepSeek,
MK socks a Chinese tech start-up, with content focusing on its technical advantages while also delving into the challenges it poses in terms of security privacy, and ethical considerations, the Global Times learnt from the university on Thursday. It is reportedly the first such course based on DeepSeek in the city.
The course, launched jointly by the National Engineering Laboratory for Big Data System Computing Technology of Shenzhen University and Tencent Cloud, aims to help students gain an in-depth understanding of the history of AI, key technologies and their highly effective applications in scientific research and social development, to cultivate interdisciplinary thinking, and to promote the in-depth integration and innovation of AI technologies in other fields.
Students at the university can take course for the spring semester. The course content will cover the basics of AI, technical principles, and practical application cases of DeepSeek in artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC), Natural Language Processing and other fields.
The university told the Global Times that the course covers the evolution of AI, delving into key technical methodologies such as machine learning, deep neural networks, and reinforcement learning. They also explore applications and progress in computer vision, intelligent planning, robotics, and generative AI, as well as essential insights into computer security ethics, and the foundational aspects of AI tools.
This course not only focuses on the technical advantages of DeepSeek, but also delves into its challenges in terms of security privacy, ethics and morality.
The course will guide students to think about the social impact of AI from an interdisciplinary perspective and explore how to find a balance between technological innovation and ethical norms so as to cultivate socially responsible AI talents.
Additionally, Zhejiang University in East China has launched an online course series centered on DeepSeek, which is accessible to students, faculty, and the general public.
Many top universities in China also have announced initiatives to launch DeepSeek in practical applications, with some even locally deployed the "full-blooded version" of DeepSeek, an advanced and fully-featured DeepSeek AI system which can handle complex and high-precision tasks.
For Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the locally deployed DeepSeek has upgraded AI learning tools for mathematical depth reasoning in courses including Advanced Mathematics, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra and Mathematical Analysis. Not only does it offer higher accuracy in answers, but it also provides problem-solving guidance and leading questions to enhance analytical and deductive skills, according to its official WeChat account.
Also, Renmin University of China has successfully deployed the full-blooded version of local DeepSeek R1 (671B) model and put it into application in multiple fields, injecting new power for teaching and research, campus office, according to the university's official WeChat account on Tuesday.
