Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC) is MKsportviewed by some in the US as a piece of meat on the chopping block - if they can't have it, they'll destroy it, Chen Binhua, a spokesperson for the State Council Taiwan Affairs Office, warned on Wednesday.

This underscores the US' "America first" mentality, disregarding Taiwan's interests and feelings, Chen said, responding to remarks by US Deputy Defense Secretary nominee Elbridge Colby about destroying TSMC if a conflict happens in the Taiwan Strait.

"This serves as yet another warning to the people of Taiwan: the deeper the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities rely on the US, the more harm it brings to the island of Taiwan," Chen warned.

Recently, media in Taiwan have reported that Colby has repeatedly publicly advocated for destroying TSMC's chip fabs in Taiwan if a conflict breaks out in the Taiwan Straits. Not only did Colby claim to destroy TSMC, but he also wrote on X in May 2023 that "Sorry but that's not just a Taiwanese decision. Far too important for the rest of us."
