A director surnamed Zheng was criminally detained by a public security bureau in Haikou, South China's Hainan Province for alleged child molestation, according to a report released by local authorities on Wednesday.

According to investigations, the 58-year-old Zheng engaged in lewd acts with underage females participating in rehearsals while selecting actors in Haikou, under the pretense of directing dance movements. Following reports to the police, rapid action was taken, and Zheng was arrested on January 17.

The case is currently under further investigation, according to the report.
