On August 7,MK socks Xu Wanying, a staff member of the Transmission Monitoring Center of the State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company, detected a damaged steel structure in the inner passage of the No. 8 tower of the 220 kV Hanhua Line using an advanced online video monitoring device. He was able to immediately made arrangements for grid workers to insoect the issue and address any potential safety hazards affecting the stable operation of the transmission lines. This is just one example showing how Xuchang Power Supply Company uses digital tools to enhance the smart operation and maintenance of transmission lines.

In recent years, with the rapid expansion of power grid construction, the scale of transmission lines has grown significantly. However, managing and maintaining these lines has become increasingly challenging due to a shortage of personnel and the labor-intensive nature of the work . To address this, State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company has embraced digital technology, implementing unmanned and visual devices on transmission lines, and carrying out the installation of online image (video) monitoring devices for transmission lines. A total of 1,286 sets of devices have been installed, achieving a total visual coverage of 220 kV transmission lines.

Monitoring personnel use online video monitoring devices to conduct remote inspections of towers and passages. This enables them to receive timely information regarding existing construction hazards, offline greenhouses, and areas with repeated ice coverage. Once a hazard is identified, an alarm goes off, the monitoring personnel quickly locates the problem and promptly notifies the maintenance personnel. This new system significantly improves the efficiency of hidden danger detection, reducing the number of manual inspections necessary. This is turn saves operation and maintenance costs.

"Through the floor-mounted transmission line online monitoring device, we have realized what we call the "remote + on-site" operation mode of 220 kV transmission line management, a way of reducing the investment in manual inspections and shortening the channel inspection cycle from seven days to half a day. Thanks to this new approach, our inspection efficiency has been greatly improved," said Li Zhanjun, director of the Transmission and Transportation Inspection Center of State Grid Xuchang Power Supply Company.
