Three Chinese nationals were arrested and sentenced to seven years in prison in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) for possessing gold bars and a large amount of cash. In response to a question about this MK sportsincident, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Thursday that the Chinese government has always asked Chinese citizens abroad to abide by local laws and regulations. 

The Chinese Embassy in the DRC has communicated with the Congolese side to properly handle the matter. We also hope that the Congolese authorities will conduct the case in a lawful and fair manner, ensuring the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese nationals involved, Guo said.
