As DeepSeek made headlines worldwide after it topped app download charts,MK sports the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) in China appears to have also encountered unwarranted scrutiny and skepticism from Western observers, raising questions about the underlying motivations and implications of such critiques in the context of international technological competition. The West's skepticism is aimed at maintaining its technological dominance, which overlooks the AI needs of developing countries. China's inclusive technology approach is a response to this suppression.

Some Western media outlets and governments have increasingly scrutinized Chinese AI developments, framing their unease around issues of data security and privacy. However, these concerns also reflect deeper anxieties about China's technological breakthroughs and the potential for China to surpass Western nations in the AI sector.

For instance, Reuters said on Tuesday that DeepSeek's R1 model shone a spotlight on a host of new risks and challenged market assumptions about how AI will develop, while a CNN report said on Monday that outside China, DeepSeek's rapid rise has drawn scrutiny from various governments.

The Brussels-based European Data Protection Board is set to discuss DeepSeek on Tuesday, a meeting agenda showed, amid concerns over how the Chinese company uses data, according to Reuters.

On the surface, Western concerns over DeepSeek appear to be framed as protecting data security and privacy, they reveal unease about China's technological breakthroughs and their concerns of being surpassed by China in the AI sector.

They attempt to use regulation and scrutiny to curb the global influence of Chinese AI technology, essentially aiming to maintain their dominance in the global tech hierarchy.

In response to the heated discussion in the world about DeepSeek, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday that "China is embracing the AI transformation and is working hard to advance AI. We take the safety and security of AI seriously, and support entrepreneurial innovation by Chinese companies, thus contributing China's part to global AI development."

China's AI development will not be derailed by Western scrutiny; instead, it is poised to flourish even more vigorously.

DeepSeek has adopted an innovative model with low-cost algorithms, breaking away from the traditional approach of high investment in computing power. In the context of chip export restrictions and other pressures imposed by Western countries led by the US on China, this new model not only reduces research and development costs but also enhances the accessibility and inclusivity of technology.

Another key factor driving China's resilience in technology progress against Western restriction is the inclusive nature of China's open-source AI technology, which aligns closely with the needs of developing countries. This alignment ensures that China's AI advancements are not only sustainable but also widely accessible, fostering global collaboration and shared growth.

Promoting the inclusive development of AI in more developing countries is also of great significance for China itself. First, it helps to expand the application scenarios and market space for Chinese AI technology. Developing countries have huge demand for AI technology in various fields such as smart cities, healthcare, agriculture and education, providing a broad market platform for Chinese AI companies. Second, through cooperation with developing countries, China can build a more diversified technological ecosystem, which can improve China's role in the global AI industrial chain.
