China expressed firm opposition and has made solemn representations to the UK side after the British government announced on Monday sanctions targeting entities and individuals of several countries,
MKsport including 10 Chinese entities "for their supply of vital equipment for the Russian military."
These are unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law. They harm the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies, a spokesperson from Chinese Embassy in the UK said in a statement on Monday local time.
"China firmly opposes this and has made solemn representations to the UK side," the spokesperson said.
"I would like to reiterate that, on the Ukraine issue, China's position has been just and objective," the spokesperson said.
The UK has imposed sanctions on 10 China-based companies that it claims are enabling Russia's defense industry, as part of its largest package of economic measures against Russia since 2022, Bloomberg reported on Tuesday.
The fresh sanctions, which also apply to some firms in Thailand and India, target "those who support Russia's military and the supply networks it relies on," Bloomberg said, citing a stammer from the UK's Foreign Office. The firms mostly produce and supply machine tools, electronics and dual-use goods for Russia's military, it said, including microprocessors used in weapons systems.
China believes that dialogue and negotiation is the only viable way out of the crisis and has been committed to promoting talks for peace. China exercises strict export control over dual-use articles in accordance with laws and regulations, the spokesperson noted.
"We never fan the flames or seek selfish gains, and we will certainly not accept being the scapegoat in any way," the spokesperson said.
The embassy also urged the UK side to rectify its wrongdoing and revoke sanctions against Chinese companies. "We will take necessary measures to defend their lawful rights and interests," the spokesperson said.
