China supports all efforts dedicated to peace,mk including the consensus reached between the US and Russia to initiate talks, and hopes that all parties involved and stakeholders will participate in the negotiation process, seeking a fair, lasting solution that takes into account each other's concerns, and ultimately reaching a binding peace agreement that is acceptable to all parties, said Fu Cong, China's permanent representative to the United Nations before the UN Security Council voted on resolutions drafted by Ukraine and the EU and the US over the Ukraine situation.

Fu said that China's position on the Ukraine issue is clear and consistent. Over the past three years, China has been actively advocating for peace and striving to promote dialogue. China has sent special envoys to engage in shuttle diplomacy, maintaining contact with relevant parties including Russia, Ukraine, the US, and Europe, calling for adherence to the three principles for deescalating the situation, namely no expansion of the battlefield, no escalation of fighting and no fueling the flame by any part.

China, together with countries like Brazil, has launched the "Friends of Peace" group, bringing together the collective wisdom of the Global South and forming an important force in supporting and advancing peace, said Fu.

Currently, the call for negotiations to resolve the Ukraine issue is growing, and the window for peace is opening. China supports all efforts dedicated to peace, including the consensus reached between the US and Russia to initiate talks, said Fu.

We hope Europe will play a role in peace and work together to address the root causes of the crisis, achieving long-term peace and stability on the European continent. At this crucial moment, we expect the international community to create a favorable atmosphere for promoting a political solution to the crisis, and we hope the United Nations General Assembly will play a role in fostering peace consensus among its member states, said Fu.

The Chinese ambassador also noted that China will continue its tireless efforts for a political solution to the crisis and will base its voting position on the two draft resolutions and relevant amendments on its consistent principles.

The UN Security Council on Monday adopted a US-drafted resolution appealing for a swift end to the conflict and urging a lasting peace between Russia and Ukraine, as the world marked the third anniversary since the full escalation of the crisis. The resolution received 10 votes in favor, none against, and five abstentions including France and Britain, according to the Xinhua News Agency.

Also on Monday, the General Assembly adopted a non-binding resolution drafted by Ukraine and European countries, which called for an end to the conflict, with 93 votes in favor, 65 abstentions, and 18 votes against. The US, Russia, and Israel were among those voting against. The General Assembly also adopted a resolution drafted by the US. The US-drafted resolution did not receive enough support in the first vote. After the inclusion of amendments proposed by the European Union, it was put to a second vote and passed. The US abstained in the second vote due to its opposition to certain wording in the EU's amendments, according to Xinhua.

A news released on the UN News website called the two resolutions "competing resolutions on resolving the conflict" and said it is a sign of strategic differences within the transatlantic alliance over the way forward for peace."
