When asked about whether the recent dialogue between Russia and the US might affect the China Russia strategic cooperation, Foreign Minister Wang Yi, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said at a conference on China's foreign policy and external relations on Friday in Beijing that no matter how the international landscape evolves, the historical logic of China-Russia friendship will not change and its internal driving force will not diminish.

China and Russia have found a path of "non-alliance, non-confrontation and not targeting any third party" in developing their relations, Wang said.

It is a pioneering effort in forging a new model of major-country relations, and has set a fine example for relations between neighboring countries. A mature, resilient and stable China-Russia relationship is a constant in a turbulent world rather than a variable in geopolitical games, Wang said.

Both sides have deeply summarized historical experiences and have decided to maintain permanent good-neighborly relations, engage in comprehensive strategic coordination, and seek mutually beneficial cooperation and win-win outcomes, Wang said, noting that this approach best serves the fundamental interests of the peoples of both countries and aligns with the direction of progress of the time.

2024 marked the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic relations and President Xi Jinping and President Vladimir Putin met in person three times, jointly steering the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination for a new era into a historic new phase, Wang said.

2025 marks the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II. China and Russia fought fiercely on the main battlefields in Asia and Europe, making tremendous national sacrifices and significant historical contributions to the global victory against fascism, Wang noted.

Both sides will take this important historical milestone as an opportunity to uphold the correct view of World War II history, defend the achievements of the victory, safeguard the UN-centered international system, and promote a more just and equitable international order, Wang said.
